’22 Dreams’ Double Vinyl LP!

Here’s a bit of info on the double vinyl version of ’22 Dreams.’

Paul Weller 22 Dreams Limited Deluxe Double Gatefold Vinyl Set.

Paul Weller releases his 9th Studio album 22 Dreams on June 2nd on Island Records (a return to the label from back in 2000). Recorded over the course of a year at Paul’s own Black Barn Studios in Surrey, 22 Dreams is a kaleidoscopic tour de force incorporating rock, funk, soul, free jazz, krautrock, classical, spoken word, electronica and all stops in between. It’s a seventy minute (m)odyssey delivered with a verve and ambition to shame musicians half his age. With production by Weller and Simon Dine, 22 Dreams features a roll call that includes ever faithful guitarist Steve Cradock plus appearances from the likes of Noel Gallagher & Gem Archer from Oasis, Little Barrie and Graham Coxon.

Following the top five success of his last album “As Is Now” and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brits in 2007, Weller could have been forgiven for resting on his laurels. But then, that’s never been Paul’s way.

Being contrary, as ever, Weller recorded 22 Dreams as a double album. But while the vinyl version stands as a double, the standard CD has all tracks fitted on to the one disc – this is still very much in keeping with the feel of one of the old classic double albums that creatively inspired Paul when recording 22 Dreams. As well as the aforementioned 1-disc format, there will be a super-deluxe, hard-backed cover double CD version which includes a 32 page booklet that features the specially written short story by renowned poet Simon Armitage, his interpretation of the story he feels the album tells. (The story also appears in the sleeve of CD1).

This allows us not to forget that 22 Dreams stands as a reminder of days when LPs were designed to challenge as well as thrill the audience. CD2 will feature demo versions and the fine track “Rip The Pages Up” produced by Weller cohort Brendan Lynch that is currently unavailable elsewhere. It also has an Instrumental version of “Big Brass Buttons”, the track done with Primal Screams Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes, of which the original version should see the light of day on the second single.

In career terms, 22 Dreams is as bold, brave and exhilarating as those other classic albums released when Paul was at a creative crossroads –All Mod Cons, Confessions Of A Pop Group and Wildwood.
